As first-generation large-scale landowners, Tommy and Laurie Cedillo purchased the 40 acres of untamed terrain of Nine Trials Ranch to build a legacy for their 9 children. The name is a tribute to the paths each of the children may take in life, while honoring that their trails can always lead back to their home: Nine Trails Ranch.
The most basic need of every human, according to psychologist Abraham Maslow, is physiological in nature. We must have a place where we feel safe and secure, where we can eat, breath, and sleep. With a large family, Tommy and Laurie knew that it was important to provide that for themselves, and to ensure that their children might also have a place that will always serve those needs for them.
When you are invited to join them on the ranch, they are welcoming you to their home, to break bread and stay with the family. You are offered a chance to find respite, albeit briefly, in the wild beauty of Arizona's high desert.
Nine Trails Ranch is located 3 hours from Phoenix. The drive on Arizona's highway 87 takes you through the picturesque Tonto National Forest. From the mountainous haven of Payson, you will drive through the Sitgreaves National Forest, seeing one of the most beautiful landscapes Central Arizona has to offer. Sweeping views of pine-covered mountains rolling south from the Mogollon Rim will take your breath away. Once you reach the charming mountain village of Heber, you are nearly here!
The ranch is located between the towns of Heber and Holbrook, along highway 377. Highway 40 is just 40 miles away and is dotted with notable sights and towns. Travel west for 30 minutes to find yourself in the small, famed city of Winslow, Arizona. Just 30 minutes further west, you'll find Meteor Crater Natural Landmark. Flagstaff, Arizona and Snowbowl Ski Resort are 45 minutes further west along Highway 40. And if you want to visit the Grand Canyon, you only need to travel another 80 miles.
If your fancy takes you east on highway 40, you will reach Petrified Forest National Park, which is located in a geographical area known as Painted Desert. Whether you head east or west, you can find casinos for entertainment, and plenty of places to purchase authentic Native American jewelry, clothing, blankets, and culinary delights.
Southeast of the ranch lies the White Mountains of Arizona and the Apache Reservation. Sunrise Park Resort, a ski area on the White Mountain Reservation, is just over 2 hours away.
